Want an encore career in health care? Explore 80 health careers with a new, free website

Encore Careers
Dear friend,
Nurse
Did you know that over half – 57 percent – of the more than 10 million nonprofit jobs in the U.S. are in health care?

And that health care will generate millions of new wage and salary jobs between 2008 and 2018, more than any other industry?

If that situation gets you thinking about your encore in a big-picture sense, a new, free website can help you drill down to the details. The Virtual Career Network can help you explore 80 different health care careers: what kind of training is required, where to get the training and where the jobs are. You can even take online
classes (some free, some not) and search for health care jobs by zip code.

The American Association of Community Colleges built and operates the site, with funding from the Employment and Training Administration of the U.S. Department of Labor and with help from nine other partner organizations.

The site's goal: to serve as a resource for people to transition into high-paying, high-growth health care careers.

The demand for such a service is great: A recent New York Times article highlights labor needs in the health system, and describes both paid and unpaid work being done by people in the second half of adulthood.

Interested? Be one of the first to check out the Virtual Career Network. The site welcomes your comments. Just click on a box at the bottom, right corner of the homepage that says, "Tell us what you think."

If you like the site, spread the word to friends, relatives and colleagues who are thinking about health-related encore careers.

All best,
Phyllis
