Hopkinton Networking Group: Business Etiquette

Hello Everyone,
The agenda for this Friday's Hopkinton Networkers Group (HNG) meeting will be featured by two speakers, Heather Cole and Scott Hymovitz . The facilitator for this week will be Gil Krispien. We will devote the first hour, from 10 to 11 AM to the following agenda: Welcome, Landings, Announcements, New Member Intros, and Needs & Leads. Please arrive early, so we can make every effort to start on time. In the second hour, Scott will talk about "Business Etiquette" and Heather will discuss becoming a "Financial Representative."

"Business Etiquette"

Today's increasingly casual culture may make learning about "etiquette" seem stuffy and old fashioned, but good manners and a professional attitude and appearance still apply!

Business Etiquette
1. Favorable first impressions
2. Networking etiquette
3. Rules of the business meal
4. Personal electronic communications

About Scott Hymovitz:

In 1994, Scott became the Chief Operating Officer for Northwestern Mutual Financial Network - The Wellesley Group. In March 2011, Scott was appointed Chief Development Officer for The Wellesley Group. His responsibilities include Leadership Development and the development of new Financial Representatives.

Financial Representative Description

Supported by our network of financial specialists, training programs and mentoring opportunities, they have access to the resources, products and assistance they need to help their clients and build their practices.

The Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, the Wellesley Group, has projected the need for additional financial representatives in the surrounding Boston area over the next twelve months. If you're a top-notch performer, value freedom as your own boss, want to be financially rewarded for hard work and have the desire to impact people's lives positively everyday, then you may be a candidate we want to speak with.

General Information:

The networking group meets in Hopkinton, at St. John the Evangelist Church parish hall. The meeting occurs, from 10 to 12 noon, and will meet the first and third Friday of the month. The parish hall has a capacity for 250 people and there is plenty of parking spaces in the parking lot and on the street. Around the perimeter of the parish hall are rooms to allow us to have focused network groups or for any other purpose we need. We chose the first and third Friday to allow everyone to attend the Acton Networking Group or any other networking group, if they wanted, on the Friday we do not meet.

We will maintain our close affiliation with Acton Networkers by using the same list-server to share information between the groups. Any e-mails specific to the Hopkinton Networking Group (HNG) will be indicated in the subject line either by "Hopkinton Networking Group" or "HNG"; this way anyone attending these meetings will know the e-mail is intended for them.

We will follow the following agenda items:
* Welcome
* Landings (with doughnuts)
* Announcements
* New member introductions
* Needs and Leads
* Speaker(s), Workshop, or Focus Group
* Cleanup

For those new members who give their introductions, this is what we would like to know:
* Name
* Skills and Value Statement
* Where have you been?
* Where are you going?
* Your title
* Your target companies
* Geography of search
* Name and e-mail address

If anyone wants to join our team, please let one of us know; we could always use the extra help and input for ideas.

Directions:
Take Rt. 495 North/South and get off Exit 21A. Go through three traffic lights. Colella's Supermarket is on the right at the third traffic light. The first street after the third traffic light is Church Street, take a right turn. The church is on the right. Go around to the left of the parking lot and go into the side entrance of the parish hall.

Depending upon where you live, perhaps you may want to use Mapquest for a more direct route. The address of the church is:
St. John the Evangelist

Greetings!

Wendy loved educating children.We wish you a very happy holiday season! We wish you a very happy holiday season!We wish you a very happy holiday season!
Domenic had just celebrated 3 decades in business.

Success, yes, but he wanted more.

So he bought a franchise.

A good first step.

Now, he needed to tell his story.

He also knew his customers could help.

So we developed a plan.

6 web movies & 12 customer testimonial movies, over the next 12 months.

Satisfying, important work.

Just what he needed to hone his message.

Now people are able to find Domenic.

Through Facebook, YouTube, e-mail, etc....

And his movies will bring his website alive!

Oh my, is he going viral?

A near rock-star?

Well, almost.

Maybe next year.

When he has the time to visit Palm Beach.

The next step in his plan.

Want an encore career in health care? Explore 80 health careers with a new, free website

Encore Careers
Dear friend,
Nurse
Did you know that over half – 57 percent – of the more than 10 million nonprofit jobs in the U.S. are in health care?

And that health care will generate millions of new wage and salary jobs between 2008 and 2018, more than any other industry?

If that situation gets you thinking about your encore in a big-picture sense, a new, free website can help you drill down to the details. The Virtual Career Network can help you explore 80 different health care careers: what kind of training is required, where to get the training and where the jobs are. You can even take online
classes (some free, some not) and search for health care jobs by zip code.

The American Association of Community Colleges built and operates the site, with funding from the Employment and Training Administration of the U.S. Department of Labor and with help from nine other partner organizations.

The site's goal: to serve as a resource for people to transition into high-paying, high-growth health care careers.

The demand for such a service is great: A recent New York Times article highlights labor needs in the health system, and describes both paid and unpaid work being done by people in the second half of adulthood.

Interested? Be one of the first to check out the Virtual Career Network. The site welcomes your comments. Just click on a box at the bottom, right corner of the homepage that says, "Tell us what you think."

If you like the site, spread the word to friends, relatives and colleagues who are thinking about health-related encore careers.

All best,
Phyllis

Hire a Veteran ‘On Demand’

Sent to you by Steve Sherlock via Google Reader:

Sec. NeeBy Department of Veterans' Services Secretary Coleman F. Nee
Despite recent positive news on declining unemployment, veterans as a whole remain unemployed at a much higher rate than national and state averages. Unemployment rates are even higher among young veterans and women veterans. (For the latest Bureau of Labor Statistics visit: http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.t05.htm )

As part of the state's many initiatives to help our returning veterans become employed, Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray and the Department of Veterans' Services (DVS) reached out to major trade associations to encourage them to hire veterans and circulate information about veterans' benefits.  Among the growing list of major trade associations committed to working with the Administration and the Massachusetts veteran community are: The Massachusetts Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (MACCE), the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, the Massachusetts Business Roundtable, the Associated Industries of Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council, the Mass High Tech Council, the Defense Technology Initiative, and the Retailers Association of Massachusetts.

DVS has also partnered with Comcast Corporation to launch "Hire A Veteran On Demand," which aims to connect returning soldiers to jobs to help ease their transition back into civilian life. The pilot program, which posts video profiles of returning soldiers who are looking for work, started in late January and will be available for the next 90 days for prospective hiring managers and recruiters to review for their employment needs. Check out one Veteran profile here:  http://tinyb.it/2E4C614C578 .The veterans featured were chosen by DVS and the profiles were produced by Comcast's Video Production and Services team. Interested hiring managers or recruiters can contact individual candidates by getting in touch with the Department via the email address included at the end of each video profile.

Initiatives like these are a testament to Massachusetts' leadership in providing services and supports to the Commonwealth's Veterans and their families.

If you are a veteran or know of a veteran seeking employment or wish to hire a veteran, please email veteransvoice@massmail.state.ma.us or call 617-210-5970
