Best Kept secret - Massachusetts One Stop Career Centers

Hello Everyone,
Surprise! We are in the winter months, clearly demonstrated by the too many snow storms, if the Hopkinton schools are cancelled on the day of our meeting then we do not meet; however, if there is a delay, then we do meet. Even if the schools are not closed, if the weather is bad, it is best to stay home then risk an accident.

The agenda for this Friday's Hopkinton Networkers Group (HNG) meeting will be featured by speaker, Lee-Ann Johnson. The facilitator for this week will be Gil Krispien. We will devote the first hour to the following agenda: Welcome, Landings, Announcements, New Member Intros, and Needs & Leads. Important Note: Please make a serious, concerted effort to arrive before 10:00 AM. We are going to start the meeting on time at 10:00 AM. In the second hour, Lee-Ann will talk about "Best Kept Secret - Massachusetts One Stop Career Centers."

Recap of HNG Meeting of February 6, 2015:

Our 139th meeting had 13 people, this is nineteen less than the previous meeting; four signed the New Member list. William Lam was our facilitator. There were four introduction speeches.

We reviewed the Goals / New Year's Resolutions made at our January 2, 2015 meeting. Only William Lam, Jeff Beauchaine, and myself listed what we had specified as our goals at the January 2nd meeting, and we met not only the two required goals, but others as well.

Of the eighteen people who attended the January 2nd meeting, only three returned to discuss whether their goals were achieved. This was a significant disappointment, and it is unlikely this exercise will be repeated.

Schedule for HNG Meetings:

Part 2 Networking Exercise of Goals / New Year's Resolutions

Hello Everyone,
We are in the winter months, especially demonstrated by the recent snow storms, if the Hopkinton schools are cancelled on the day of our meeting then we do not meet; however, if there is a delay, then we do meet. Even if the schools are not closed, if the weather is bad, it is best to stay home then risk an accident.

The agenda for this Friday's Hopkinton Networkers Group (HNG) meeting will be featured by Part 2 Networking Exercise of Goals / New Year's Resolutions. The facilitator for this week will be William Lam. We will devote the first hour to the following agenda: Welcome, Landings, Announcements, New Member Intros, and Needs & Leads.

Important Note: Please make a serious, concerted effort to arrive before 10:00 AM. We are going to start the meeting on time at10:00 AM. In the second hour we will review the Goals / New Year’s Resolutions that we specified at our January 2, 2015 meeting.

Goals / New Year's Resolutions Part 2

At our January 2, 2015 meeting each person filled out a form specifying a list of one goal / resolution for each week leading up to this meeting for a total of five, and committing to accomplish two of these. If you only listed two, then you needed to commit to those two. We will review the two committed goals, and if a goal was not achieved, we will want to know why. We will record these reasons and have a speaker to address these reasons on how to alleviate them at a future meeting.

This is a multi-purpose networking exercise, not only having to commit to achieve two goals, but also learning from others why goals were not achieved, and finally having a future speaker to help and show us how to achieve goals in a timely manner.

For those that did not attend the January 2nd meeting, it does not mean you do not have to attend. Quite the contrary, because this is a learning experience that all can benefit from.

Recap of HNG Meeting of January 16, 2015:

Our 138th meeting had 32 people, this is fourteen more than the previous meeting; five signed the New Member list. Ronaldo Lu was our facilitator. There were five introduction speeches.

We had speaker, Stephen Martins, who talked about "Get the Offer." This included:
Part 1 – Know your approach to job searching. Is it good enough?
* Offensive
* Defensive
* Sales
Part 2 – Getting to the source with your resume. Is my resume good, too long, right wording? Common errors.
* Recruiter
* Office worker
* HR
Part 3 – **The Interview** (guaranteed success if they follow this step)
* Confidence
* Approach
* Questions
* The Close
Part 4 – Question areas

Schedule for HNG Meetings:

Hopkinton Networking Group: "Get the Offer"

Hello Everyone,
Now that we are in the winter months, if the Hopkinton schools are cancelled on the day of our meeting then we do not meet; however, if there is a delay, then we do meet. Even if the schools are not closed, if the weather is bad, it is best to stay home then risk an accident.

The agenda for this Friday's Hopkinton Networkers Group (HNG) meeting will be featured by speaker, Stephen Martins. The facilitator for this week will be Ronaldo Lu. We will devote the first half-hour to the following agenda: Welcome, Landings, Announcements, New Member Intros, and Needs & Leads. Important Note: Please make a serious, concerted effort to arrive before 10:00 AM. We are going to start the meeting on time at 10:00 AM. In the second hour and one-half, Steve will talk about “Get the Offer."

Get the Offer

Part 1 – Know your approach to job searching. Is it good enough?

* HR

Part 3 – **The Interview** (guaranteed success if they follow this step)

* Confidence
* Approach

Part 4 – Question areas

Hopefully by this point, everyone will be open with concerns and questions. Steve will have a list that usually is discussed if we are looking to fill more time. This presentation is very interactive. He will boost them up, kick them in the butt, and pat them on the back. He is a very motivated person, and he thinks they will leave that way too.

We had speaker, Gil Krispien, who presented the Hopkinton Networkers Group 2014 Summary. This included total money collected, expenses, gifts to St. John's church, landings, HNG fund, and proposed gifts to St. John's for 2015.

Next, we had the Goals / New Year's Resolutions network exercise where each member filled out a form indicating two to five goals which each member must commit to achieve two of them by the first meeting in February, namely, February 6, 2015. We asked if any member would volunteer to publicly list his/her goals, and seven stepped forth and gave them. In a number of instances some members were given feedback and suggestions about their goals.

Goals / New Year's Resolutions

Hello Everyone,

Now that we are in the winter months, if the Hopkinton schools are cancelled on the day of our meeting then we do not meet; however, if there is a delay, then we do meet. Even if the schools are not closed, if the weather is bad, it is best to stay home then risk an accident.

The agenda for this Friday's Hopkinton Networkers Group (HNG) meeting will be featured by a slide presentation and a networking exercise. In the second hour, Gil will show a number of slides showing the Hopkinton Networkers Group 2014 Summary, and this will be followed by a networking exercise of Goals / New Year's Resolutions.

Hopkinton Networkers Group 2014 Summary

This will be a brief slide show summarizing the significant statistics occurred during the 2014 year of the group. This will include attendance, total money collected, expenses, gifts to St. John's church, landings, HNG fund, and proposed gifts to St. John's for 2015.

Goals / New Year's Resolutions

The objective is to commit to two goals / New Year's Resolutions to be completed by February 6, 2015, which is the first HNG meeting in February. Since there are five weeks until the first meeting in February, it would be beneficial to list one goal / resolution for each week for a total of five, in the event there is difficulty achieving a goal then there are others to commit too. If you only list two, then you need to commit to those two.

As you enter the meeting, please pick up the sheet of paper on the table on which you can enter your goals, and there are examples listed on the sheet to help you.

At our HNG meeting on February 6th, we will review the two committed goals, and if a goal was not achieved, we will want to know why. We will record these reasons and have a speaker to address these reasons on how to alleviate them at a future meeting.

Needless to say this will be a multi-purpose networking exercise, not only committing to achieve two goals, but also learning from others why goals were not achieved, and finally having a speaker to help and show us how to achieve goals in a timely manner. This is a small part of what networking is all about.

Recap of HNG Meeting of December 19, 2014:

Our 136th meeting had 23 people, this is eleven less than the previous meeting; one signed the New Member list. William Lam was our facilitator. There was one introduction speech.

We had speaker, Grace Carcich, who talked about "How to Significantly Increase Your Energy During the Job Search."

It was a dynamic learning experience where each received many time–tested methods to increase his/her energy triple-fold. This interactive seminar assisted each in gaining more energy, thinking outside the box and adding some little known strategies to what is often a challenging time in our lives. She instructed us with tips on goal setting for 2015 and beyond.

This was followed by an Open Forum Discussion of various topics displayed on the whiteboard. One topic discussed was how to prepare for an interview.

Schedule for HNG Meetings:
